Right now I'm pretty close to deciding to string my 1909 Fairbanks and 1880ish Fretless Dobson with Nylgut, but I know I will miss the crisp steel sound on the Fairbanks - sometimes, and the super plunky sound of plain kitchen string on the Dobson - sometimes. If I had two banjos that were similar, it would be easy to decide. so any one I change now will be a sacrifice of some sound and feel that I have that is not similar to another. My several banjos are all extremely different from each other in size, sound, tone, feel etc. I'm finding it very hard to decide which banjo(s) to string with it and which to keep steel. I've never used nylon or nylgut, but I sure like the way it sounds when I hear it here on the Hangout (or is it really that I quite like the playing of the two posters immediately above me?). My problem is that I want to string some of my banjos both ways - just can't quite make up my mind yet to take the plunge or with which banjo.
